The evening’s setting sun marked, sadly, an acute departure from this place, home to escargot simmering on tall grass, swarms of hirondelles racing above, nightly thunder that cracks open the sky, people that say bonjour even to strangers…the scattering of small villages, a warm, bright sun, flowers that bloom before your eyes; I will miss you, my simple, French promise land.
